Easy Christmas DIY Ideas Front Porch Mercantile

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Time to deck the halls and get ready for Christmas!

We’ve been busy having fun at Front Porch Mercantile painting up some fun items for you (and for our homes) getting the shop ready for the Holidays, I thought I would share a few ideas and easy projects you can do at home.

Finished Painted Christmas Pillow Front Porch Mercantile

Did you know you can paint on fabric? We LOVE using our FAT Paint to paint up on burlap pillows. You can see how we do it here. We carry a full line of fun stencils at Front Porch Mercantile. If you don’t live nearby you can order from my friend Joanne at Muddaritaville

We also have been painting up mason jars. This is an easy project and would be a wonderful paint project to get the kids involved with. Remember, our FAT Paint is non toxic, safe and easy to use.

FAT Painted Mason Jars

To paint up a mason jar, make sure the jar is clean, simply paint using FAT Paint chalk style paint, 2 coats (waiting about 30 mins between coats), then lightly sand or distress if you would like. At this point your jar will be a light colour, finish off and protect the jar by using our Clear Furniture Wax, our Patina Wax or White Wax, rubbing it on and into the jar, then wiping off excess. Or join us at the next workshop.

Now just add some Christmas bling and you are done – you will have a beautiful Christmas jar to decorate your house or give as gifts!

Christmas Frame Making at Front Porch Mercantile

Another fun and easy DIY project –  paint up an old frame and add a little ribbon and bowes.

This is an easy project, a great time to try one of new Fusion Metallic paints! Remember, there are no voc’s or chemicals in our paints, so you can paint up your project inside with no worries of smells and a great project to do with the kids. Clean of your frame, grab your frame and start painting!

How about a painted deer head?

Have you started decorating your house yet? It’s such a fun time of the year to get your creative on!

I hosted an East Coast Bloggers Christmas Home Tour (here)  with a couple of lovely friends last year. I don’t do a lot of decor now, opting for more simple Christmas decor here now. Here is my front porch from a couple of years ago, we don’t do all the garland anymore, but I still like my glowing lights.

If you don’t like wires look away, this is my fake mantle from last Christmas (no mantle so I painted this old dark shelf with FAT Paint Warm White and call it may mantle), I am a thrower and tosser, and don’t fuss a lot just placing things I love favourite things here and there and of course lots of lights.

Another easy Christmas DIY is music sheet paper chain (is that what that is even called?) you can see that below on my garland,  I’ve also had cute little vintage cars with Christmas tree on this cake plate for the last few years, they make me happy!

My JOY bunting is simple, cut your fabric, and freehand paint the burlap with Fusion Mineral Paint Fort York Red. I will probably hot glue the bunting this year, last year it was a last minute idea so..ya…the clothespins worked in a pinch.

I’m starting my Christmas decor today and have a few new little projects to do, will share this week!

Thanks for popping in! Have a wonderful day friends!
