I decided to take the doors off and make it an open self and re-love the doors into hanging welcome signs. I scraped off the gold lines, painted them using Fat Paint in Warm White layered with Gull Grey, added 3 square nails to use as hangers and then stencilled the word WELCOME on the glass using Fusion Sand Stone Medium and Fusion Embossing Mediums. This was a very quick and easy project, and I love how they turned out. (I will share pictures soon)

Next up, the hutch itself. We took off the scroll work/detail trim that was dating the hutch around the frame, I loved how this changed the piece instantly. (and by we, I mean Mr. FPM, he’s handy to have around now and then) :) I then painted it using MMS Curio, using a wax resist I finished it with one of our new European Colours Schloss and distressed down to the Curio. I LOVE this colour! It has different hues of browns, grey, greige..just love it!  Here is how Miss Mustard Seed explains it.

I love this colour, a lot. I was inspired by these beautiful photos from Miss Mustard Seed.

The outside of the hutch was painted in Schloss, the inside with Fat Paint Jute, I thought they coordinated really well. The outside was then finished with our 100% all natural Hemp Oil and some Miss Mustard Seed’s Antique Wax. I’m loving this transformation of this dated 80’s hutch. It’s currently available at the shop

What do think of Schloss? I’m loving this colour and already have a few other pieces planned for it. Schloss is available at Front Porch Mercantile along with the entire MMS regular colours and our new European Colour Collection.

Thanks for popping in!

Have a fab day!

  1. You’ve brought new life to this old girl! Terrific transformation. The drawer and doors seem a bit lighter color. Did you do something different with them?
I’m working on a very sweet small china cabinet that I am painting MMS French Gray with a bit of Typewriter to grey it down a bit more. I want to paint the inside a bit different but have not found a color I like. I want sort of a simple Swedish look Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Gwen
